Re: [Banshee-List] Keyboard Shorcuts

Currently, it isn't possible to disable Banshee's built-in shortcuts.  You can do the kind of quick search that you were talking about with The Beatles example, but it requires pressing the "?" key first (so, for example, you would type: ?beat... to get to The Beatles).  This isn't the most discoverable behavior, though, and it takes a little extra work, so I agree that it would be nice to have the option to turn off the keyboard shortcuts and do this by default.

There is a bug report about this issue: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=608879  It actually has a nearly-working patch that does what you're requesting.  The patch probably wouldn't be accepted as-is, though, because it doesn't offer a way to switch between the current keyboard shortcuts and type-ahead search, and I don't think the patch applies to master anymore.  Also, if I remember correctly, it crashed Banshee when you pressed the 'c' key, so try it out at your own risk. ;)  If you're the hacking type, though, it would be great to have someone working on this again, because you're definitely not the only one who wants this feature.

How do I disable the keyboard shortcuts?
I'd like to remove the playback ones (o for opening the song and etc)

And can I possibly add the ability to search for music by simply typing
instead of having the use search box?
For example: I open up Banshee. I want to play The Beatles so I start typing
Beatles. Banshee automatically goes to the first indexed song by the
Beatles.
If my details are odd, just think of what iTunes and MediaMonkey do. It's
like their UI. I don't like having to roll over to the search box and typing
what I want.
Thanks!
