The fatal error occurs on Lucid too, if you start Banshee with:

     banshee --redirect-log --debug

I got the same error message: "An unhandled exception was thrown: Could not
read add-in description..."

Invoking Banshee with '--redirect-log' and without '--debug' or vice versa
works. It seems that there is a problem with the start script
'/usr/bin/banshee' ...
