I think the idea works well there (I prefer stacking), and it certainly 
is a bit different to most apps, but I'm not sure how it'd scale. For 
one thing you need a lot more images at different scales, a big chunk of 
which will be hidden. That'll be a lot more scaling and memory usage.

On top of that then there's the size aspect - I've got 802 artists in my 
list with just 12GB music (Amazon freebies are a curse, I tell ya!). 
It's already a long list to scroll when it is a single line of an 
artist's name. Making it 2-3 lines with the album art at a reasonable 
size would be crazily long.

That's not to say that it isn't a good idea. I like the idea, I think 
the implementation just needs to be optional and may only be useful for 
a smaller group of users. Each user is different, though, so some people 
might like the extra art and indications and put up with the increased size.
