It looks like this was fixed after the 1.8.0 release.  If a stable 1.8.1 version is released, this fix should be part of it.  If you'd rather not wait around for a 1.8.1 release (which may or may not happen, I'm not sure), Banshee also has unstable and daily build PPAs that you could subscribe to, both of which should have this fix.
