... for some value of "support". For example, Nautilus just lets you mount
the "visible" portion of the iphone filesystem using libimobiledevice.
So this gets us back to the days of early ipods that simply could be treated
as a kind of glorified USB drive. BTW, current libgpod uses libimobiledevice
for that purpose, too.
The other half of support needed to manage your music collection on the iphone
is to read and update the iTunes.db file. For that you (a) have to
know the firmware
version of the iphone (because the structure of the iTunes.db varies with it)
and (b) have re-engineered the correct way to update it.
AFAIK, libgpod does all that, but the suggestion to create c# bindings for it
(search the list archives) so that Banshee may use it seems to have
gotten nowhere.
And even if someone created these bindings, someone will have to convert
Banshee's ipod support from libipod/podsleuth to libgpod.
Whining won't get you there, only code will.
