Banshee sets a specific cookie when browsing the Amazon store, so that
the server knows a downloader is available. This is currently only
done for the amazon.com domain, which probably explains the problem
with amazon.co.uk, and potentially all non US stores.
The link mentioned above probably set that cookie for amazon.co.uk, so
it sounds like a good workaround for now.

The amazing Aaron is already working on a proper fix for that issue.
