The podcast service implements the 'IDelayedInitializeService' interface
and the podcast plugin's interface is initialized in the
'DelayedInitialize' method.

So, you're right.

As far as I can tell there isn't any reason that this needs to be, it
just never bothered me enough to change it.  

I'll change it in the new podcast plugin.  

If you want to take the new podcast plugin for a spin the code is here:
git://github.com/mcu/banshee.git.  

It's basically stable, sans a few graphical elements, and waiting on
some patches to be applied to Miro Guide.  

Backup your db anyway :),
