Well I think it's due to the fact that Songbird is totally skinable -
which is a concept e.g. Firefox abandoned quite a while back (obvious
reasons).
I used Songbird for a month on one of my computers (since Banshee kept
crashing) and it is quite similar to Banshee. The good news is IMO
Banshee is still better in almost all regards that I used. The only
thing that maybe should be inspired from Songbird is the "Drag cover
here" implementation.
