I've been using Amarok rather extensively, mostly 1.4.x and previous
releases, but also checking out the new Amarok via the Amarok Neon builds as
well as the new 2.0.2 in Jaunty, and I'm rather new to the way banshee
works. That said, Amarok is nice except for one glaring omisson - no way to
transfer files to a media device. So, I'm forced to open up a terminal, and
manually navigate to where it puts podcasts and then copy those files over
to the MP3 device (Ivo Sound M620). In fact, I've been following the Neon
builds just to see if that feature gets to be included.
Other than that, Amarok has better support for podcasts (including
discovering podcasts and automatically subscribing to them) and radio and
other stations through the various services it supports, like Shoutcast.
There's no last.fm support, at least not in the "official" versions, but the
neon version does support last.fm, and seems to be a bit more robust.
Banshee (so far) has better drag and drop facilities for my mp3 player,
except it tries to convert the files to WAV while moving them to the player,
which is not necessary or desired. (I've posted a separate message to the
list about that issue.)
Since the player is a mass storage device, I could just as easily open up
dolphin (for instance) and drag and drop the album folders over to the
player, except that it scrambles the order of songs when they show up on the
mp3 player. Not that really big of a deal, but not helpful if you expect the
songs in a particular order. I was hoping that when Banshee transfers the
files, they'd go on the player in the right order.
