I don't think it's a matter of having a "clean" versus "cluttered" browser, but rather a question of what the browser represents. Currently, it really just reflects a group of tracks, and so (in my opinion) using the track artist is really just the natural choice. I can still select an album (and "All Artists") to select the album the way you want to see it.
