I'm hoping that I can design this stuff to be sufficiently
self-contained that it won't complicate a) what's already there, and
b) the writing of what's to come. If I go ahead and prototype some of
this stuff (like the rendering) and it turns out to be the
wrong-time-wrong-place for the patch, I'm fine with sitting on it for
a while. However your words of warning are appreciated and I think I
will turn my attention to other areas of the code. The impetus for my
desire to work on this stuff was having gotten myself into a Gtk/Gdk
headspace from futzing around w/ the rendering. I'm in something of a
zone with that API and thought I'd exploit that fact. Regarding the
rendering patch, I would appreciate it if we could find time to work
through the problems with it: leaving it unaddressed will be a
psychological bugaboo for me :)

My idea was actually to create something like AnimatedVBox in
Hyena.Gui which is a general solution for animating (in the way I
described) anything that is put into or taken out of it. The
ThickClient would then consume that. Still just an idea, however.
