Well I cannot say anything official so correct me whoever knows better ;)
but the last thing I heard recently was that Aaron plans to start working
on the new model/view stuff really soon now. That will take some time but
should be in CVS at the beginning of the new year.

If I remember correctly those patches had horrible performance compared 
to rhythmbox? Anyway, i'm sure Aaron will come up with something really 
cool. Dunno if this will end up being presented as the traditional rhythmbox-
like browser or something more innovative like planned originally.
