Re: [Banshee-List] Banshee-0.11.2

I've been using banshee for a couple of months now, and never had any problem, not even with the previous version (0.11.0).
Now apparently, with this new version (0.11.2)  I have to keep hald running to make banshee starts.  So I fix that problem, thanks!

Now I have a question about podcasting but I'll use another email with a different subject.

Thanks again both for your help and for your explanation.

Salvo.

Banshee needs D-Bus to communicate with HAL, and also for a slew of
other things.

Banshee works with NetworkManager, gnome-power-manager and probably a
few other things over D-Bus.  It also exposes it's own D-Bus interface
so other applications can control Banshee.

Relating to HAL, it does DAP stuff, Audio CD stuff, and perhaps some
other things that I don't know about.

While Banshee might be able to run w/o D-Bus access (I know older
versions would work), it's definitely very untested as D-Bus is pretty
much a prerequisite for a good Linux desktop experience.

Can you also verify that hald is running and that you can access it?
Just emerge hal-device-manager; it's a simple interface that lets you
view device info and will ensure that you can connect to HAL.

I've been running Banshee on Gentoo for ages and never seen this
issue; however I'm always running from CVS HEAD.  If you're upgrading
from 0.11.0 to 0.11.2, it's possible (although unlikely) that this has
something to do with the new managed D-Bus, which was introduced
around 0.11.1 time.

Cheers,

Patrick
