[Banshee-devel-list] New Community Extension "JustPlayFiles" to solve bgo#634717

Hello Banshee Developers,

I have written and hereby propose a new Community Extension "Just Play
Files" to solve Bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=634717
and actually satisfy my personal needs as well.

I have never used the FileSystemQueue as it imports local Files into
my Library once I open them with Banshee, which is not in my interest.
I manage a defined library with Banshee, but if I open a media file
that I have just downloaded in order to evaluate it, I would like to
use Banshee (usually running already on my system) to just play it as
my favorite media player/application without importing the file and
then forget about it as I continue to use Banshee. I might later
choose to move/copy that file to my media library folder to have it
integrated into my library.

The proposed extension changes Banshee to do exactly that when opening
files using the command line. The FileSystemQueue will still function
if active (I deactivate it), but it will not play the file, but
JustPlayFiles will do that.

I would like to commit the new extension to BCE (where I do have
commit access), but would also beforehand like to see if there are any
objections or comments before I commit.

There are some thoughts which I might later implement to further
improve the extension once it is accepted:

1. Add an option to continue playing what you played before opening the file
2. Currently the file is played once and forgotten. Add an option to
play the file again, when the play button is pressed again and repeat
if "repeat one" is active.

If anyone can come up with an even better name that would also be appreciated.

BR

Frank
