Just tried hand editing the config file, with entries

UseSystemFonts=false
MessageFont=Nimbus Mono PS 25
SubjectFont=Nimbus Mono PS Bold 25

and again I get horrific text and no warnings! I'm not sure why your results should be so different🤨️
