I'm trying to compile the gtk3 version (although Gentoo still has
3.6 hard masked so I'm still on 3.4). I do have gtkspell3
installed, but pkg-config is calling it gtkspell-3.0 on my system,
not gtkspell3, which is what ./configure actually checks for.
Peter made announcement _here_ 8 days ago.
I did see that, which is why I mentioned I'm still on gtk3 3.4.
However, I do have a pre-release version of gtkspell installed -
"pkg-config gtkspell-3.0 -modversion" returns "3.0.0+dev". The
balsa configure is looking for module "gtkspell3" not
"gtkspell-3.0". Are you saying the production version is changing
its module name for pkg-config?
Yes, the released version has a different API from that pre-release
version, and installs gtkspell3-3.0.pc to differentiate it. If
you've pulled the latest git version, you'll need to install the
tarball from
<URL:https://sourceforge.net/projects/gtkspell/files/3.0.0/>.
The pre-release (+dev) version is a dead-end. Packages of the
released version should soon start to become available.
Thanks for the info. I've managed to create an ebuild so I can emerge
gtkspell3-3.0.0 on Gentoo, and have successfully used it to build
balsa. Now I'll have to see if I'm ready to try gtk 3.6. In case any
other Gentoo users care, I've posted the ebuild to the Gentoo Forums at
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-943352.html. One note - I had to
download the tarball manually, since I couldn't translate the ebuild
SRC_URI to get it.
