Alas, it doesn't help. Note that I don't get 4 or 5
overlapping password dialogs - I get them one by one.
I recompiled balsa from clean source to be sure the
patch was compiled in.

I tcpdump'ed and ethereal'ed the IMAP session, and I do only
see _one_ login to the IMAP server, not 4 or 5. And that
login only happens after I've gone through all the password
dialogs.
