I've just posted a patch that should work with current cvs code at 
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61263

I've used the patched Balsa extensively with my IMAP folder set on a 
Cyrus server, with no ill effects.  I believe the worst it can do is 
fail to find the folders, but with IMAP anything is possible--yhbw!
