I didnt realize gtkhtml was on by default now. Setting this option fixed the problem I mentioned earlier today also.
If you start balsa from a console, did it complain about not being able to find gnome-multipart-alternative.png and gnome-multipart-mixed.png ?? That was what I was observing.
I am using gtkhtml 0.12.0 on Debian Woody.
