thank you... just mentioning where the config file for balsa was lead me to 
the prob. I somehow lost the entry for my inbox.  adding [mailbox-Inbox] ... 
fixed it. thanks

for starters, where is your Inbox ? (and can you please post your 
..gnome/balsa - strip any pop passwords you might have there :))
