It might be worth mentioning here that much of the code to support
filtering will /have/ to be written if we want to have anything but the
most primitive search capability.  This isn't to suggest that adding
filtering on top of searching would be trivial (which it wouldn't), but
the basic search code would be there, the code to fetch mail is present,
the code to transfer and delete messages exists, so it would really be a
matter of tying those things together and allowing users to specify rules
rather than starting 'from scratch'.

Or, another way of looking at would be to say, if we add filtering to
balsa we automatically benefit by developing (most of) a robust engine for
searching through messages.

I have nothing against procmail, this is just one more thing to consider.
