Hi Shrish,

Dear Nuritzi ,

Thanks for writing to us! We really appreciate your interest in being part
of GNOME Asia this year.

Thank you.

There are definitely some cases where non-Foundation members can ask for
travel sponsorship, so I wouldn't let the fact that you're not a Foundation
member hold you back from at least applying. I will say that the more
active you are in our community, the more of a chance you'll have at
getting sponsorship though, especially as a non-Foundation member.

I think it's worth submitting a talk idea when we open the call for
participation, and you may also see if you can volunteer at the conference
as a way to more likely qualify for sponsorship. I don't have full details
for that yet, but keep an eye out for the CfP and then maybe ping us in a
couple of weeks about volunteering opportunities to give us a time to
discuss if and what they might be.

I don't really know what sort of audience usually GNOME people compose of,
so may need help here a bit if that fits in your scheme of things.

I do have some ideas of what may or may not be good ideas for a GNOME
Asia talk, would like either you or Max or somebody whom you think I could
talk to, to have an idea which of the talks/ideas would be eligible or not
eligible for GNOME Asia.

Whether they get accepted or not, I understand it would have to stand on its
own merit.

While I know and have used GNU/Linux for more than a decade, I also know
that each community is different and each community has its own rules and ways
of doing things.

People who have made a "significant" level of contribution to GNOME are
eligible for Foundation membership. Usually that means being actively
involved on a team / with one of GNOME's many projects. As far as I know,
commenting and reporting bugs every now and then doesn't count as a
significant level of contribution, although it is genuinely appreciated!

True, accepted.

If you're interested in getting more involved, we've greatly improved our
newcomer's experience over the years. I'd highly recommend checking out the
newcomer's page: https://wiki.gnome.org/Newcomers/ if you haven't already.
A lot has changed within the GNOME community since 2008, so it may be a
good time to check it out :)

There is another thing which I didn't elaborate as I didn't have the
go-ahead of
my editor, now that I have, here goes -

Please check out itsfoss.com and then read the points below .

If we are chosen the media partner, we will write at least two
articles. One announcing the event so that more people are aware of
the event and the event can get more registration and exposure. The
second article will be published after the event is concluded. A
summary of event, talks and highlights. This way, again, more people
would know about the event.

These articles will be shared several times with our readers, email
subscribers and social media followers (around 300K in total). If we
attend the event, we'll also share the events and its happenings live
on social media channels. If there are enterprises/companies
participating in the event, we can also interview/cover a few if they
fit our reader base. This way those enterprises will get more exposure
and more value by participating in the event.

Basically, we'll do everything in our capacity to make more people
aware of the event and thus contributing to the success of the event.
If the organizers i.e. you and your team expect something else from
us, please pitch in your suggestions and we will follow if it's
feasible.

What we need in return is not much. We would want GNOME to mention
us as their media partners on their website, event presentations (if
possible) and email communications about the event. If you want to
send swags and other merchandise, it's totally up to you but not
mandatory from our side. The partial travel sponsorship bit I have
already mentioned before.
