I think this whole thread about the philosophy of GUADEC although with
interesting analogies etc... is missing one thing that strikes me most
about GUADEC.

GNOME is a community of people with a give what you can take what you
need philosophy, this has bled over into GUADEC a lot and that is
extremely cool.
