[xml] Very large integer support in schema

I'm trying to validate a document against a schema using the xs:integer built-in type. The xmlschema spec 
defines such a type to be an arbitrarily large integer, however it looks like libxml imposes it's own limit. 
This is causing problems for me as my document has such very large integers. Is this a known limitation in 
libxml, and has anyone seen this before?
