Hello,I think libxml2-2.6.31.tar.gz may be corrupt at the xmlsoft.org FTP site. Its md5 hash doesn't match the value expected by a some distributions. In my case, the FreeBSD libxml2 port is failing to compile when it downloads the file from ftp://xmlsoft.org/libxml2/ and compares that file's md5 hash to what that port thinks it should be.
Hash expected by the FreeBSD libxml2 port: 714b0683b1ec4bdc63bc356d729f9b18Hash of xmlsoft.org's file produced by md5sums: f0a476f78189f9e17efbf83e99443526
While I was searching for solutions, I noted that the problem was also noticed by a user of MacPorts (thread at http://trac.macports.org/ticket/15230). Their solution was to use the copy of the file kept at Antonin Sprinzl's ftp site, which does have the expected md5 hash value.
It might also be important that when I actually try (in FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE) to extract the contents of libxml2-2.6.31.tar.gz from the xmlsoft.org site ("tar -xzf libxml2-2.6.31.tar.gz"), it only extracts some of the files and produces the following errors:
"tar: Unrecognized archive format: Inappropriate file type or format tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors." Hopefully this information may be of some use. Sincerely, Jacob Wan jakewan obcentric com
