OK. Then, first, understand that the error message is not from
libxml2, but rather from the system loader. It is saying that it is
not able to find libz.so within your default library configuration.
The default location for libz.so is /usr/lib. Try
whereis libz.so
to confirm where it is on your system. If it is not within
/usr/lib, then try to chase down why it's directory is not within
your default library path (possible ldconfig problem?).

I already tried that...same/same.

There is some confusion here. The config param "--with-zlib=DIR"
means that *both* the include files *and* the library files are
located in DIR. Normally zlib should be included in the
"standard"
system libraries, and this parameter should not be used
(--with-zlib
should be the default configuration). So, try
./configure --enable-ipv6=no
and see if it works ok.

I installed a new copy of zlib, just to be sure. It configures,
made,
tested and installed fine. It installed into
/data/local/include so I did:
./configure --with-zlib=/data/local/include --enable-ipv6=no
and got the same thing:

help? (I tried ./configure
--with-zlib=/data/local/include/zlib.h
--enable-ipv6=no too with same result)

The PHP zlib extension is not the zlib library. It's a part of
PHP
that, like libxml2, uses the zlib library.
The zlib files are usually in /usr/include/zlib/ or just
/usr/include/zlib.h. I would think that libxml2 should be able
to
autodetect them on your system assuming they're installed in a
standard location and you can just do --with-zlib.
