  I don't understand why simply overriding the error() and warning()
function in your SAX callback block is not the right solution.
  
  Considering adding APIs, there is already a number of APIs to have
non-standard values for some of the defaults. Trying to cover all
possible cases of overriding part of the default would result in 
an API size exponential growth and I try to avoid this.
