When using gcc on Digital Unix, we experienced similar compile problems as had been reported in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55475 and http://mail.gnome.org/archives/xml/2001-June/msg00040.html. We added -mieee to CFLAGS, which solved the problem.
