Sorry, I'm getting off topic a bit. To answer your question, the hint
I'm proposing that I called _NET_SHADOW_EXTENTS could solve this. If
those extents are set by the application, then the CM might know from
this that the application intends to draw its own shadow (or glow, or
whatever).
