Did you follow the instructions of the next section on the wiki page? You must edit the
path in the Bonobo server XML file and then install it to "/usr/lib/bonobo/servers/".

Don't run the program directly.

Either use
$ panel-test-applets --iid "OAFIID:Vala_Applet"

for testing or add the applet to the panel in the usual way.
