Feel stupid for replying so quickly to my own question:
gparted had created a file:
/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/gparted-disable-automount.fdi
This set ignore=true for all disk drives, which caused nothing to be mounted
Removing this file fixed everything. It was probably created and not cleanly removed.

Hi
I am running gentoo, and not getting much luck from the forums there.
I am running the following versions:
hal-0.5.7.1
dbus-1.0.2
dbus-glib-0.7.2
udev-104
gnome-mount-0.4
My fstab does not mention any of my USB drives, but does have an entry for my cdrom
My CD drive shows up in nautilus, but when I plug in USB devices, nothing happens in nautilus (No icons on the desktop or in Computer)
Can anyone help me out here - The following are logs:
When plugging the USB device I get the attached output: hal.txt, dbus-system.txt and gnome-volume-manager.txt
The gnome-volume-manager output is from a strace
