[Usability] Appareance of widgets when windows lose focus

Hello,

I'm using Gnome Shell 3.3.90 on Ubuntu with the Adwaita theme and I've
noticed that when a window loses focus, its widgets are grayed-out, like
if they were disabled (though they're not disabled).

Personally, I find it annoying because this makes the widgets harder to
read. Also, progress bars are very very difficult to interpret: see the
attached screenshot of Transmission for a clear example.

Previously, I used Activities->Windows very often. From there, I could
check the status of multiple windows at once, just pressing the Super
key. Now I can't do it anymore because windows are mostly unreadable and
I am forced to focus each window whenever I need to check it.

Therefore I'm wondering: what is the rationale behind this behavior? Do
you consider it should be enabled by default?

Thanks,
Andrea C.
