Re: [Usability] usability Digest, Vol 89, Issue 1

Hi all,
I'm Marko.I would like to know if, in the near future, there will be any kind of gnome classic session (v 2.3x like). The gnome 2.3X was something almost perfect, which only needed some more little improvements(Like the ''Print'' option in the content menu and similar...).

Let me explain:
-My customers had tons of complaints and I had to reinstall older versions of Gnome on their Notebooks/Desktops computers...23 this week.

My friends and customers brought back their computers and tell as follows:
-Complicated,useless & not complete.

Everything was so simple and intuitive with gnome 2.x, then everything gone wrong with Gnome 3.
Few examples on the comments:

-In Gnome 2.3x, I had a launcher for launching the gnome-main-menu and a few similar launchers to launch gnome-control-center.In one single-click I was able to see all my application and settings options(and to select/use them if wanted). -On the same panel, it was possible to see all my current tasks (by the implementation of dockbarx or the default one) and to select/open/close them in any moment); With Gnome shell, I don't see anything until I click on ''Activities'' and then on the opened window(the appllication preview). -In Gnome 2.3x I was able to switch/see all my desktops in one single-click.Now I don't see them/ have to click 2-3 times to switch the desktop/cannot set the number of desktops

The list of negative comments is very long, but I won't go on.

I was wondering if anybody could tell me if the there will be something like Gnome 2.3x.If not, it should be better to switch to another desktop environment.

Thank you in advance for the kind response,

P.S.:I'm not a fan of KDE, but....now it seems to be better than Gnome. The KDE is under constant development, but it's interface (the main one) never changed(Some things changed, but nothing important).Users don't want a ''revolution'':They want something familiar, something easy-to-use. If you have something that ''works''(e.g. Gnome 2.3x), don't reinvent it:Just improve it.

In this list you can discuss usability issues related to Gnome and, of course, ideas for Gnome programs. I believe it's a good idea to start before any coding.
