Web-apps can be a source of inspiration and there is this idea that
open-source in general and GNOME specifically should be more present in
that area. Some patterns will be independent of the web vs desktop
question.

There is a chance that Google would have some interest in a pattern
library, but of course they could easily do it all themselves and it
might be difficult to get  a hold of the right person.
