Removing the editing functionality would simplify the design - you'd
wouldn't have to bother with activating and deactivating alarms, and you
could remove the edit button.

Removing editing will also allow you to optimise your interface for the
most common operations, ie. adding alarms. You currently use the same
dialog for both adding and editing of alarms, for example, which isn't
ideal. Solely focusing on adding will allow you to get that dialog just
right.

Finally, if you make adding alarms quick and simple, you remove the need
to edit in the first place.

Yes. You'd basically remove the concept of activating and disabling.
