Why not allow the user to drag it after all ? The feeling the user would get could be something like a wheel with an indicator fixed on it, and they can position the wheel, like a physical one, between multiple positions. Then of course, clicking on a single choice would be faster, but I think we are not trying to improve speed here, but usability. What we are aiming for is making the "multiple choices, yet exclusive" obvious at first sight, I believe.
Maximum speed of use remains the same for users who have some experience already (ie : they clicked somewhere, and observed the ribbon positionned itself, with a fast, yet percievable move, on that option, and now know they can do that every time).
Those are my feelings on that subject, but perhaps I'm wrong because some issues with that design are not obvious to my mind ?
