I would have said "Text entry box" or something along those lines but I'm
probably too used to the widget which is specifically a "text entry field"
as dobey explained.
With better affordance less explanation is necessary, automatically
putting the cursor in the right place as MPT mentioned is good but
also I'd suggest putting a big dumb GO button or equivalent, much like how
the location bar in a browser does things.
