Another solution that's been mentioned (but never really explored) would
be for the terminal to have something like the caret mode in Firefox...
while active, the terminal buffer would be treated like a regular text
document, and the standard keyboard navigation/selection/clipboard
shortcuts would be available. (This would probably be useful for
screenreader users, too.)
