This should be done to the preference apps to.

I don't think people will find it there. Maybe put it at the top of the
window in place of the information-message and make it italic?

This way you will get two searchboxes. Maybe focus the top searchbox on
typeahead?

Don't do this. Using the same font-size everywhere is better.
