Maybe you never play games or watch videos or listen to music

It would probably make more sense for Totem to disable the
screensaver while it's running, same with other programs,
but the mechanism to do that isn't altogether clear right now.

Basically the screensaver needs to accept a dbus message to freeze,
and the programs need to pass it. I suspect if the 1st is implemented,
the 2nd will come along in due course.

That would be great. In addition, Mac OS X
<http://alexandros.roussos.free.fr/macosxrumors/images/030629/Expose_prefs.jpg>
(as well as the "Hot Corners" shareware for Windows
<http://www.southbaypc.com/HotCorners/screenshot.gif>) lets you
deactivate the screensaver by resting the pointer in one corner pixel of
the screen. (They also let you turn on the screensaver immediately by
resting the pointer in another corner pixel.) If you're watching a movie
full-screen you're likely to move the pointer into the corner to get it
out of the way anyway, so this technique is easy to remember.
