I just said it "should", if it follows the HIG guidelines... it's up to
individual apps if they don't want to follow the guidelines.

Right... that's what Ctrl-W is for, in most cases. Most other windows
(again, if they choose to follow the HIG) should have an explicit button
for closing them, with an easier-to-hit accelerator.
