However, with the current buttons it's not immediately
clear that a hierarchy is involved.
When I started using GNOME, I figured it out in the
file open and save dialogs, but I am an experienced
user of other OSes, and I know to expect a folder
hierarchy in a file chooser.
Perhaps the arrow idea could be combined with the
existing buttons? An arrow between the buttons would
take up space, an arrow on the buttons would be
misleading. What about curving the sides of the
buttons, or slanting them (to hint at the slash
separator)?
