The reason this wasn't done was that the categories were essentially
meaningless and arbitrary. They didn't add anything except actually
hiding the applets.
Idea: why not have categories (an applet may fit into many) and a left
hand side filter, like with the epiphany bookmarks?
One can see all applets or only the ones fitting into a category.
