[Usability] add to panel usability problem

The new add to panel has too many launcher/applets.

And this is going to increase in future. Is it
possible to categorize them according to their use :
Amusement, Networking, System, Laptop...Miscellaneous.

I can think of two way :

1. Use the "application launcher" method. When
clicking on Application Launcher, the +Add button
changes to "Forward". Use this method for the
categories mentioned above.

eg : When selecting "add to panel" will bring up the
same widget as seen

http://www.gnome.org/~davyd/gnome-2-8/images/gnome-panel-add-applet.png

but instead of the lauchers/applet it will show the
different categories. when any one is selected the
"forward" button is made active. Then when the forward
button is clicked it will show the relevant
launcher/applet for that category.

2. Split the screen in two columns. The left one
contains the name of the categories in a multi-line
select box (?) and the right one contains the applets
relevant to that category. It will eliminate one step
compared to methods 1 & browsing the categories will
be faster.

eg : Mozilla firefox Tools > Options.

or Mozilla firefox Tools > Themes.

How "mozilla firefox options" look - something like
that...
