Re: [Usability] The new file chooser

Some weeks ago i took up helper work for Mozilla.org's Bugzilla after the summer
vacation. The Mozilla suite and the Gimp are my two favourit apps on Linux, and
I've spend the better part of 5 years on voluntary work for Mozilla.org.

I was puzzled to find that the Gtk2 version now had a "filepicker" which I
barely could use: There was nowhere to paste or write in it! Then yesterday, I
built the devel version of Gimp and alas - the same file choose appeared there.

Usually, I copy/paste a file url from the URL bar in Mozilla to the filepicker.
Be it images or - when I upload something - the filenape i typed somewhere
earlyer.

This is also my style of using the filepicker. Not being able to enter a full path in text or pasting from clipboard with Ctrl-v or Middle Mouse click is slowing me down extremly.

There is another usability problem with the new filepicker that should be addressed. You can´t quickly search for files in the list by entering their first letters. (Like in windows or even in the nautilus main windows.) While having a text widget for entering paths in the filepicker is perhaps a little more difficult to integrate the keyboard search in the filepicker is absolutely essential and easy to integrate. I hope this problem is addressed quickly.

To make it clear I really apreciate your work and there are only a few usability problems left. The general gnome usability has improved greatly.

best regards,

Christian
