Thanks, Alan and Liam, for the wealth of information why new URI protocols are 
a bad thing!
I think I do understand that now. :-)

So, there should not be a shelf:/// protocol.
But there should still be a location named Shelf which is available from the 
Places menu and lives in the Computer location, shouldn't it?
