Dave is right - I've confirmed that this is fixed (entire icon area is
clickable regardless of visual transparency) in Nautilus 2.4.0 (the
version I tried was the one that came in the Fedora Core test2 release).
Thanks to Dave for pointing this out and well done to those that fixed this.
