We really should manufacture profiles for our users...
Personally, I find audio notification disturbing and pointless. Especially
if the sound associated with the notification is just a single tone. There
are too many things on my computer that go "beep" on occasion, frequently
without any visual indication. On the other hand, and this is an
accessibility point, we need that alternative to be present in some form.
I don't object to the idea of the audio bell, merely request it not be the
standard "beep." And yes, that will create problems in systems that don't
have an audio card. Which might mean a speedy demise to the audio idea,
who knows?
