Nod, in addition the fact that applets are top level objects sort of
bothers me and I know nils has always found this odd as well. Of course
most applets really are just system status indicators that should just
appear and disappear automagically based on the machine you are working
on. (for instance on a laptop the battery status should always be shown,
or a system without sound support should never have a volume control)

ctrl+alt+d is the coolest feature ever for us who actually use the
desktop :)
