Sounds reasonable in cases where there's a situation analogous to
"connecting to a site". It still seems a bit silly to waste space
on the throbber in the presumably (for most users) more common
case of local file browsing.

What about (instead) some sort of animation in the window itself?
Would that work, or would there be cases where the window contents
were partially rendered but Nautilus still needed to "throb" to
indicate connecting?
